Why there is no cookie banner
We set one first-party cookie and use a small amount of local storage, all of it strictly necessary to run the site or to remember a setting you chose yourself. We count visits, but we do that on the server: it sets nothing on your device, involves no third party and keeps only a daily total. There is no advertising, no cross-site tracking and no analytics product watching you, so there is nothing here that needs a consent banner. If we ever add something that does need one, we will ask before it loads and update this page.
What is stored
| Name | Where | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
everglow_keeper | Cookie, first party | A random id used only to count how many memorials this browser has raised, so the free allowance is honoured. It cannot edit, read or identify anything else. | 1 year |
everglow.keeper.<id> | Local storage | The private owner key for one memorial. Sent only in an x-owner-token header when you make an explicit edit, never on a plain page view. | Until cleared |
| Scene, hour, season, style, view | Local storage / session | Remembers how you last left the garden so it opens the same way next time. Purely a convenience setting. | Until cleared |
| Rate-limit counters | Server memory | Counts purchases from an IP address for one hour to stop scripted abuse. Held in memory only, never written to a cookie or a persistent log tied to you. | 1 hour |
| Visit counts | Our server, not your browser | Daily page views and daily reader counts. The reader is a short hash of address, browser name and day with a secret salt; no address is stored and one day cannot be linked to the next. Nothing is written to your device. | Daily totals, pruned when old |
What we do not set
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No analytics cookies and no third-party analytics: our own visit counting puts nothing on your device.
- No session cookies from social networks or embedded video platforms.
- Nothing on our domain from the payment step. Checkout runs on Creem’s own site, so the cookies it sets for fraud prevention belong to Creem and are governed by Creem’s cookie and privacy policies, not this one.
Clearing and control
Your browser settings let you delete cookies and site data for everglow.koumen.net at any time; the site keeps working for reading and wandering. Two consequences are worth knowing: clearing the keeper cookie resets the free allowance, and clearing local storage removes the owner keys, so this browser will no longer be able to edit its memorials.
This is why, when you raise a memorial, we give you a private link containing its key. Keep that link somewhere safe. Opening it on any browser re-attaches the key there, and the address bar is cleaned afterwards so the key is not left in a screenshot or a shared URL. There is no account to recover a lost key from, so without that link we cannot prove ownership — we will still help by email at everglow@koumen.net.
