Miso
“Came for the warmth. Stayed for the view. Left a small dent in every windowsill.”
Miso was not a beach cat. Miso was a windowsill cat who happened to live above a beach, and considered the whole coastline an extension of her personal heating system. She slept in the square of afternoon sun on the sill, moved with it across the floorboards, and returned to the same spot the next day. On warm evenings she would sit on the wall outside and watch the gulls with an expression of deep professional disapproval. The sun still lands in that square at four o'clock.
Pictures of Miso, kept by the person who raised this memorial.

Small messages from visitors — a candle in words. 2 so far.
The sun still finds your square at four. I leave the curtain open.
She watched the gulls for nine years and never once approved of them.
Some things are easier to say later. Seal a letter for Miso and choose the day it opens — it stays unread until then, even from this side of the garden.
