Pippin
2017 — 2024 · Bird · 7 years together
“A small blue comma in a very long sentence.”
Pippin rode on my shoulder through seven house moves. He liked the top of the curtain rail and the sound of running water. He would tuck his head under his wing at exactly nine o'clock, like a tiny, feathered clock.

Nine o'clock. I still look up at the curtain rail.
Letters to the future
Some things are easier to say later. Seal a letter for Pippin and choose the day it opens — it stays unread until then, even from this side of the garden.
